TRIBUTE FROM MANONG TOPING:
OUR VISIT TO MAMAMonday, July 03, 2000 We, (Rey & Marilou) arrived at the new Manila International airport exclusive to PAL at 4:05AM local time. Our flight, scheduled to depart LAX at 1PM was delayed to 7:10PM. A passenger checked in bags but did not show up so we departed at 8:30PM after the passenger’s luggage was taken off the plane. Raul was kind to pick us up. He was calling my name but I did not hear him. Marilou recognized him. Mama smelled very sweet indeed! After a late breakfast, the Alarm bell went off. M. Walde ran to the bedroom where all four of the nurses were struggling to get mama to calm down during her seizure attack. She averages one seizure attack per week. I was asked to hold her hand. M. Walde, the nurses and Marilou took turns trying to calm her. On nurse had a napkin covered spoon in her mouth, between her teeth to prevent her from injuring herself. Mama needs to be fed every two hours. Her diet includes porridge, milk and sweets. M. Walde dialed A. Asun’s number. A. Nancy answered and she did not recognize my voice. A. Asun said she will come early in the morning. Her skin is wonderfully healthy. She has few wrinkles in her forehead but her cheeks are tight..
7/3/00 5:16 PM Maribelle, Richard came for a late lunch. They took M. Pitong’s SUV with Marilou & M. Walde to change money and buy groceries. Mama enjoys someone to
constantly hold her hands. She holds on to your hand and swings it gently back and forth
to the rhythm of Santana (Spanish Harlem) I waited outside under the canopy for Maribelle, Marilou, M.Walde & Richard to pick me up to go to church. Mass had ended. We returned. Maribelle & Richard went home with dinardaraan carry out. M. Pitong & friend arrived and stayed for dinner. M. Pitong got 6 beers. We drank two each. We went up and fell asleep after my shower. Tuesday, July 04, 2000 3:13 PM A.Asun did not come. We went next door to David’s salon for manicure and pedicure. Dimsum next door for about P850. The four left to go to the bank and shopping. Jennifur, Irene & Rey went to Christ the King for Mass. Rowena arrived first. Ben & Mida came after we all had dinner. Marilou gave Italian handbag and pink blouse from Saks Fifth Ave to Rowena. Wednesday, July 05, 2000 7:47 AM Auntie Asun arrived. Two pictures from the vatican with Marilou & Rey being blessed by the pope. We went for Ribs and onion ring next door for lunch. It continues to rain hard with typhoon signal ONE. We sent to Garcia for grocery and met Baby Garcia. Manong Pitong came with VHS but forgot RCA or cords to TV. At 7pm we went to get Mama’s medicine. We were driven by Jennifur and on the way we passed by the Restaurants. Having passed through flooded streets, the Car stalled. We were pushed by another driver and two children. The driver left, M. Walde gave 10 Pesos to be shared by the two children. Returning home, we had Lety, Josie and Anna Li make corned beef and cooked M. Pitong’s tinapa for dinner. An Electric “brown out” occurred at 2AM.
Thursday, July 06, 2000 7:54 AM Returning from Mass at Christ the King with Seminarians, we eat the left over fish over sinangag and longaniza. Manong Toping and Manang Betty arrived just after Marilou left to have her hair washed and dried at David’s Salon around 10AM. M.Pitong and Manang El arrived 5 minutes later. We left to pick up Maribelle at 11Am then visited Papang, Manong Ricky and Maricar at Loyola Cemetery. We proceeded to Makro’s. Bought a 20 inch Sanyo TV AVM2020P (made in Japan) for Mami, two Sanyo VCRs VHPVX10 for M.Walde and Mami. Total purchases P21K.
Friday, July 7, 2000 Marilou had stomach ache and we could not go to mass for the first Friday. M. Pitong arrived with M. Al & M. Pitong went to his office to have his passport renewed for P800. Maribelle & Rihard arrived. We had lunch. At about 1PM we left for Greenhills shopping. Exchanged $dollars for P42.82. Used Citibank cards for more cash.
